Senai Kizangu Varuval (Pan Fried Yam)


   

Preparation time : 10 minutes

Cooking time : 30 minutes

Number of servings : 6
      

Ingredients

1. Sliced yam - 250 grams.

2. Onion - 1

3. Tomatoes - 2 ( medium size)

4 . Garlic - 3 or 4 pods

5. Chopped coriander - 2 teaspoon

6. Curry leaves - 1 sprig

7. Chilli powder - 1 teaspoon

8. Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon


9. Coriander powder - 1 1/2 teaspoons

10. Oil - for frying

11. Salt - to taste.


Method :      

1. Cut yam into medium sized slices (2 inches squares).

2. Boil the slices in water sprinkled with a 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder. Drain water after the yam is cooked and allow it to cool.

3. In a blender, grind onions, tomatoes, garlic, coriander leaves and curry leaves into a fine paste.

4. To the ground paste add chilli powder, coriander powder and salt and mix well.

5. Smear the ground masala on the yam slices.

6. Heat a flat frying pan and pour 2 to 3 teaspoons of oil. When oil gets hot, place the yam slices on the pan and shallow fry on both the sides till they turn golden brown. A few slices should be fried at a time.


Note :        


This Pan fried yam will be a good side dish for any kind of rice preparation.
